The 28th season of Thursday Thunder saw a mix of first-time and repeat champions crowned on the quarter-mile Thunder Ring at EchoPark Speedway.

In the closest championship battle of the season, Cole Denton (Pascagoula, Mississippi) held off Sam Butler (Taylorsville, North Carolina) to win the WJP Investments Semi-Pro Division feature on championship night and capture the division title.

Denton is now a three-time Thursday Thunder Division champion, adding the WJP Investments Semi-Pro title to his resume. He was the 2022 Bandits Division Champion and the 2024 Young Lions Division Champion.

Despite starting on the pole, it was an uphill battle for the driver of the No. 46 car. After slipping to the outside lane on the first lap, Denton got shuffled back to fifth place, and his championship hopes looked dim. Sam Butler (Taylorsville, North Carolina), who entered second in the points standings, battled for the lead with Hunter Jordan (Davidson, North Carolina) midway through the race while Denton was mired back in the middle of the pack.

"My goal was to stay in fifth and hope he [Butler] finished second," Denton said. "The entire time, I'm just like, 'Don't pass him.'"

But Butler and Jordan got tangled on Lap 13, which sent the pair to the rear of the field and brought out the caution flag. That opened the door for Denton, who could now see a championship out his front windshield.

Riding in third over the final seven laps, Denton let Mitch Wright (Curtis, Ontario) and Garrett Erwin (Covington) battle for the win while the Pascagoula, Mississippi, native focused on the championship. But Wright and Erwin tangled on the final lap, giving Denton the race win to punctuate his championship.

"That's one crazy thing about racing, anything can happen," Denton said. "Leading on the start, I got bumpered, but I mean it's racing, we are racing for a championship. I was hoping we'd all race clean and get to battle it out for the championship; that didn't happen. But it was pretty fun."

Jensen Jorgensen (Stockbridge) and Bill Plemons Jr. (Locust Grove) each added to their division championship titles. Jorgensen dominated the Associates Group Pro Division race for his eighth win of the season to capture his third consecutive division title.

"I just love racing out here," said Jorgensen. "It's such a family-friendly environment. Racing these cars is so much fun. Thursday Thunder has been dear to my heart for so many years now; to win three pro championships is not taken lightly and is pretty hard to do."

Plemons became a four-time Circle C Auto Sales Master's division champion with his seventh win of the season and his 44th career Thursday Thunder victory.

Colt Johnson (Smyrna, Tennessee) earned the win in the Adrenalin Powersports Young Lions Feature on Championship night for his second victory of the season. But it was Dylan Bongiovanni of Cumming who captured the 2025 division Championship, the first of his career.

Carson Sherman of Loganville led from flag to flag in the Incentive Risk Management Outlaws feature to collect his sixth win of the season and his first division Championship. James Behnke of Canton got shuffled through the field in the Incentive Risk Management Bandit's feature but came out on top for his seventh win of the season and also earned his first division championship.

The 29th season of Thursday Thunder kicks off in the summer of 2026 at EchoPark Speedway.
