The stage has been set for a thrilling Thursday Thunder season finale Thursday night after an action-packed night of racing in Round 9 last week.

Cole Denton (Pascagoula, Miss.) led the WJP Investments Semi-Pro division from flag to flag to secure his fourth victory of the season, extending his narrow championship to lead to nine points over Round 9 and current division title runner-up Sam Butler (Taylorsville, N.C.). This is the closest championship battle entering Thursday night’s finale; Denton can secure the title by finishing 4th or better Thursday night.

“We didn’t really have a great car three races ago and we were like, ‘Alright, we’ve got to get this thing perfect’ and we did,” Denton said in victory lane. “It’d be really nice to start on the front row (in the finale) and stay up there and stay consistent with one more race to go.”

In the Adrenalin Powersports Young Lions division, Las Vegas native Keaton Harbison captured his first career win in Round 9. Dylan Bongiovanni (Cumming, Ga.) enters championship night leading the second-closest division title fight; Lane Christensen (Pendergrass, Ga.) finished 3rd in Round 9 to narrow the gap between himself and Bongiovanni to 15 points with one race remaining.

Bill Plemons Jr. (Locust Grove, Ga.) scored his fifth win in nine starts in the Circle C Auto Sales Masters division. With a 39 point cushion entering the finale, he will likely secure another Masters division title by taking the green flag Thursday night. The same applies to The Associates Group Pro division title leader Jensen Jorgensen, who settled for 2nd to Nick Woodall but by virtue of passing points outscored all comers in Round 9. Jorgensen rides a 49 point advantage into the finale.

Despite chaotic cautions and subsequent shuffling of the running orders in their features, James Behnke and Carson Sherman stayed ahead of the mayhem and led from start to finish in the Incentive Risk Management Bandits and Incentive Risk Management Outlaws divisions, respectively. Both racers enter the finale comfortably in the championship lead in their divisions.

The WJP Investments Chargers division saw Cameron Stearns (Sharpsburg, GA) finally break through, clinging to his first win of the season. In the Incentive Risk Management Rookie Bandoleros division, Mason Massey (Lucedale, Miss.) found his way back to the front after an early shuffle in positions, reclaiming his lead and taking home his second victory.

Grandstand admission is available for spectators who want to catch the action.
